Hackney born DJ Al Grey has been collecting vinyl from the age of 13 when he use to go without lunch just so he could buy a 7inch 45 to add to a collection he had inherited from his father.
He fascination with vinyl started from watching his dad play records on the family blue spot gram.
To this day lm fascinated with how a piece of plastic when placed on a turntable and a needle placed on top makes sound through speakers and l never tired to learn from other DJs and collectors.
My collection is extensive although l no longer dj at venues with vinyl due to the preciousness of the black gold and most venues don’t have turntables.
In essence it’s much easier to play from a computer and controller. The big difference is many of his rarest music aren’t available to be downloaded or on cds. So currently lm digitising my collection which is a long old task and could take years.
I don’t mind as it reintroduces me to records l May have forgotten about. My ethos is to entertain and to educate or edutainment so to speak. Vinyl is Final.
